The Zamfara Government on Thursday donated food items and clothing materials to families of the victims of recent bandits attack in Gidan-Goga District of Maradun Local Government Area of the state.

Gunmen had on Friday attacked some communities in the area, killing 26 and injuring three persons.

A total of 178 persons benefited from the donation comprising 36 widows, 109 orphans and 33 parents of the deceased.

Presenting the items, the Chairman of the state Damage Assessment and Relief Committee, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, said the gesture was aimed at assisting the families.

Rikiji, who is the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, was represented by the Secretary of the Committee and Permanent Secretary of the state’s Cabinet Affairs Department, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulaiman.

He said, “we are here today on behalf of the state government to condole the families of the deceased and entire people of Gidan-Goga district and Maradun local government area over this great lost.

“We brought food items and clothing materials to the families of the victims.

“Each of the 26 families of the deceased would be given five bags of assorted grains, including 2 bags of rice, 1 bag each of maize, guinea corn and millet.

“Each of the parents and wives of the deceased would be given three sets of clothes while each the children of the deceased both males and females, would be given two sets of clothes,” he said.

He urged people of the area to use Ramadan period to pray for Allah’s intervention to end security challenges facing the state.

Earlier, the District Head of Gidan-Goga, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad, described the attack as sudden and worrisome.

Muhammad thanked the state government for the gesture and urged the victims to consider the incident as a test from Allah.

Responding on behalf of the families of the victims and Maradun council, the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Ahmad, assured that the assistance would reach the beneficiaries.
