Alimosho residents cry out over poorly constructed drainages

Residents of Mosobalaje in Isooto area of Alimosho local government of Lagos State have appealed to the state government to save them from flood which has sacked many of them from their houses.
They blamed the flooding on the collapse of the drainage system in the area.
The residents also accused the contractor constructing drainages in the area of doing a shoddy job which has led to the collapse of many of the drainages.
A visit to the area revealed that many of the residents have packed out of their houses due to flooding while those still living there are experiencing difficulties coming out of their residences. Car owners can no longer bring their vehicles home because the roads in the area have been submerged by floods.
Speaking with PMNEWS, the Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), Isolo, Alhaji Jide Mosobalaje blamed the perennial flooding of the area on the culvert constructed on the express road leading to the area.
”Rather than constructing a culvert there, what we need is a bridge that will allow for a smooth flow of water to the canal. The culvert is not helping matters at all. It has resulted in the blockade of the water path thereby destroying the drainages constructed by contractors appointed by the state government,” Alhaji Mosobalaje said.
On what has been done by the community to rectify the anomaly, the community chieftain said the leadership of the community has been to the secretariat of the state government in Alausa to lodge complaint on the issue, stressing that the current political situation in the state has prevented an immediate response from the government.

Also commenting on the collapse of the drainages in the area, 1st vice chairman Ifesowapo Community Development Association, Alhaji Bamidele corroborated Alhaji Mosobalaje’s comment, but blamed the contractor who constructed the drainages at Mosobalaje for a poor job.
“We cannot sleep in our houses again because of flooding. We are afraid of the rain falling because when rain falls, we cannot enter our houses. The whole place will be flooded. Our properties will be floating, we cannot sleep.
“We are appealing to the state government to come to our aid and assist us. The suffering is too much. We need help,” he pleaded.
PMNEWS also spoke with Otunba, an official of Shokas Construction Ltd, the contractor who handled the collapsed drainage on Mosobalaje Street on why the job was abandoned after the collapse of the drainage.
He said Shokas was not awarded the contract directly but was given to Laraleks by the state government.
He however denied that the job was abandoned. He assured that work would resume on the drainages once the current political situation in the state eases.
