An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, sentenced an auto mechanic, Muyideen Korode, 46, to two weeks imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining N55,000 on the pretext of fixing a customer’s faulty vehicle.
The Magistrate, Mrs T.O Obasanjo, said that the evidence by the prosecution witness proved that the accused was guilty of the one-count charge of obtaining money on false pretences.
She, however, gave the convict an option to pay N25,000 as fine.
The convict had pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Idowu Ogunleye, had told the court that Korode committed the offence on June 29, at 6:30pm at Gbangba area of Abeokuta.
Ogunleye said that the convict obtained N55,000 from the complaint, Mr Ajibola Ayeni, to fix his faulty Toyota Matrix car.
She said the accused collected the money but failed to repair the vehicle, having known that he could not repair it.
Ogunleye said the offence contravened Section 418 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
