Ogun Assembly Still Shut

Gov. Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State.

Gov. Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State.

Plan by the Tunji Egbetokun-led G-15 of the Ogun State House of Assembly, South-West  Nigeria, to sit this morning was stalled.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the lawmakers who had assembled in Abeokuta as early as possible  today to hold a plenary session in the Assembly Complex failed to show up in the House as at  12 noon.

When P.M.NEWS visited the Assembly Complex this morning, it was still under lock and key  with fierce-looking fully-armed policemen guarding the place.

Nobody was allowed into the complex.

It was further gathered that the G-15 had sent an advance security team to the complex for  protection, while awaiting security reports from them before storming the assembly.

The Speaker, Tunji Egbetokun and his colleagues were said to have, however, taken  precautions due to security reports that the assembly complex was not safe, especially with  the threat from the G-9 members to attack them if they dare sit in the House.

It was not, however, clear if the G-15 had shifted its sitting to a neutral ground or would  still sit before the day runs out, as they were said to have remained together since  morning.

The speaker who described last Monday’s kangaroo impeachment as a comedy, had at the weekend  told newsmen that the House would hold its plenary session today.

The self-acclaimed new speaker, Mr. Soyemi Coker and his other eight colleagues were quizzed  at the weekend by the Ogun State Command of the State Security Service (SSS) over their  action last Monday.
