Man Jailed For Assaulting Lawmaker
A Katsina Sharia Court has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Abdu Isma’ila, to two months imprisonment for attacking a member of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Babangida Nasamu.
The Khadi of the Sharia Court, Mustapha Saulawa, however, granted the convict an option of N2,000 fine.
The police prosecutor, Malam Abubakar Mamman, told the court on Tuesday that the convict, who resides at Kofar Durbi quarters in Katsina, allegedly attacked the legislator on Sept. 25.
He said that the legislator was driving in his car along Dikko road when he was allegedly attacked by Isma’ila.
The prosecutor explained that the attack damaged the windscreen of Nasamu’s car, an offence contrary to sections 166,167 and 370 of the state Shari’a Penal Code.
Isma’ila, however, pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal force, assault and mischief before the court.
Delivering judgment, Saulawa said, “having pleaded guilty and asking for leniency, the court has sentenced you to two months imprisonment or a fine of N2,000.”
NAN reports that Isma’ila paid the N2,000 fine in the court.
