Obalende Road Turns Mechanic Workshop
The popular Obalende road, which leads to Dodan Barracks, the former seat of the Federal Government before it was moved to Abuja, FCT, has been turned into a mechanic workshop by some unscrupulous mechanics, aided by some motorcycle spare parts sellers whose shops are along the road.
Some of the residents of Obalende who complained to P.M.NEWS about the new face of the once beautiful Obalende road said they are not happy with the way Obalende road and its environs has been neglected by the federal, state and local governments, especially in terms of infrastructure renewal and beautification. As at today, Obalende roundabout has become one large mechanic workshop where motor vehicles and motorcycles are repaired.
Residents and motorists have thus called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to direct the Lagos State task force on environmental sanitation and enforcement unit to clean up Obalende road without delay.
According to Yomi Odugbesan: “Obalende road and the roundabout are supposed to be the most beautiful place in Lagos State today because it was the former seat of the Federal Government, just as New York City was the former seat of government in the United States of America before the capital was moved to Washington DC.
“Governor Fashola, whom we trust can do it, should as a mater of urgency extend development and beautification to Obalende and its environs so as to restore its lost glory and kick out all the mechanics and abandoned vehicles that have constituted an environmental nuisance in the area,” he stated.
