Pedestrians Abandon Footbridge
Pedestrians have again abandoned the foot bridge and resorted to dashing across the expressway and rail line at Oshodi.
Sometime ago when P.M.NEWS reported this same issue, officials of the concerned ministry immediately swung into action to restore sanity to Oshodi bus stop, but the same recalcitrant kombi bus (danfo) drivers have returned to the major road, loading and discharging passengers near the damaged fence.
Concerned Lagosians have expressed surprise that the fence, deliberately damaged by the commuter bus drivers, has not been repaired till date.
This, they said, has allowed predestrians who had hitherto used the footbridge to abandon it dash across the road and railway line, constituting a nuisance to motorists and other road users and in the process, defacing the present Oshodi bus stop.
Some of those who spoke with P.M.NEWS called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to direct the Ministry of the Environment to do their own job of sustaining the zero tolerance to environmental nuisance at Oshodi bus stop and fix the damaged fence without delay. They added that the Ministry of Transportation had done their job of disloging the drivers from the major road.
According to Okechukwu Okoli, a trader, “the demolition of Oshodi bus stop and its subsequent beautification has come to stay. I was one of those affected and we thought the demolition of Oshodi was to punish people unnecessarily, but it was later we realised that it was for the betterment of everybody.”
“Now, what does it take the Lagos State Government to repair the damaged fence to stop these pedestrians from bringing shame to Oshodi bus stop again?” he asked.
“We are not going to keep quiet until the fence is fixed because we are proud of the present Oshodi bus stop,†Okoli stated.
