Ex-Eagles Favour Keshi

A slew of top former internationals have been lining up in support of Stephen Keshi’s candidacy for the Super Eagles’ job.

Keshi goes head to head with former teammate and sliver medal winning coach at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Samson Siasia for the post, with both men to be interviewed by a technical committee panel of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF tomorrow.

Siasia enjoys wide support from among Nigerian soccer fans and majority of the U-23 Eagles, who won the Olympic silver medal in Beijing, but Keshi, is getting the support of former Nigerian internationals who believe that the ex-Mali national team coach is good for Eagles’ job.

Among former players who have endorsed Keshi are ex-Enyimba of Aba coach, Kadiri Ikhana, David Ngodigha, Ademola Adesina, Thompson Oliha and Tijani Babangida.

Adesina said Keshi got more international experience than Siasia, having coached the Hawks of Togo in Germany 2006 FIFA World Cup and Mali at the African Nations Cup

But Siasia believes he is the best man for the job. Siasia told SuperSport.com: “I am calm. I am looking forward to the interview on Thursday (tomorrow), I believe I am suitably qualified and I am sure I will get the job.”

The former Nantes of France striker also stated that he would give home based players a chance if he is eventually given the nod to lead the Eagles.

“I am currently in charge of a local side (Heartland) so that tells you I have faith in the domestic system. Home-based players are good. They just need time and the right atmosphere and they will be fine,” he said.
