Ejigbo LCDA To Repair Roads
Ejigbo Local Council Development Area has disclosed that the gradual reduction of the rains has made it possible begin work on four major roads.
LCDA Chairman, Kehinde Bamigbetan, said the works department, which began the repairs yesterday, will complete the fixing of potholes from Oke-Afa to Egbe bridge with the application of asphalt.
The programme, which began with the cutting of the damaged portions three weeks ago, had been severely hindered by the rains.
“Second, the works department will begin the rehabilitation of Fadu Avenue to Last Bus Stop to Idimu Road. Third, the works department will return to Falana-Omiyale Street to complete the drainage and level the road,†he said.
Bamigbetan also assured that “the TTT Construction Company handling the Estate Gate road will also return to site to make the shut lane motorable. This will enable them to start the culvert on the second lane to drain the water on the inward lane into the estate. It is our hope that the rains will be scanty this week so that a lot of work can be accomplished.â€
Bamigbetan said the implementation of this programme will improve travel time, cut fares and save commuters a lot of stress being experienced on the routes.
Debunking the impression in some quarters that the administration has not done enough on the roads, Bamigbetan said the rains have always impacted badly on the roads in the LCDA because most of them were not tarred. “The 0ver 40 roads we graded in the last one and half years have been messed up by the rains. We have to wait for the rains to stop this month to grade them again. It is so easy to forget that the NNPC road, which had been abandoned for over five years, was rehabilitated and re-opened in the first 100 days of our administration and those who used to go to Iyana Ejigbo to turn were praising us for a good job then.â€
He assured that the same administration will put all the major roads in good shape before Christmas, adding that new roads will be tarred to enhance traffic flow.
Bamigbetan thanked the Federal Government and the NNPC for reconstructing the NNPCÂ road and approving the upgrading of additional 700 metres of the access road.
