Victims of robbery attacks on Mile 2 Oke, along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos, have called on the state government and police authority in the state to declare total war on hoodlums perpetrating crimes in the area.
While describing the place the most deadly area in Lagos, the victims recounted that there is no day that motorists and commuters are not attacked by men of underworld, who carry out their nefarious activities with impunity.
Some of the victims that narrated their experience to Lagos Bulletin said the robbers unleash terror on their victims mostly at odd hours and at times in broad daylight. They added that crime is always committed there between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., when people are dispossessed of valuables ranging from GSM, Blackberry, wrist watches and jewellery, among other things, while female victims are, in some cases, raped.
Describing how the criminals operate, Mr. Tajudeen Aina, who claimed to have been a victim, said “at night, you will see them wandering at the bus stop as if they want to board vehicles, whereas they are actually monitoring people’s movement.
“Suddenly, they will approach you with guns in their hands or other dangerous weapons such as knife and broken bottle, which make other people at the bus stop to panic and run for their lives and before one knows they would have dispossessed their victims of their belongings.â€
Aina said this happens almost everyday and wants the police authority in the state to beam its searchlight on the area.
Another person who claimed to have fallen prey to criminals in the area said he lost N150,000, his Blackberry phone and some important documents during the attack.
The victim said he mistook his attackers for commuters who were also waiting for bus but later got to know when he was attacked and dispossessed of his money and other valuables.
He called on the police authority to beef up security in the area to save motorists and commuters from activities of criminals operating in the area.
