‘We Did Not Attack Magistrate’

By Paul Sanusi

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation ( Special Offences Unit),  Alausa, Ikeja, Southwest Nigeria, has exonerated its men from the alleged assault of a  magistrate in Isolo last week.

Chairman of the unit, Mr. Bayo Sulaimon, a Superintendent of Police, said his men were not involved in the maltreatment of the Lagos magistrate.

Sulaimon said: “We do not have any officer  in this unit with the name ASP. Amuda. There were many policemen from different units and divisions on the ground  that day and the officer that was alleged to have assaulted the magistrate is not from our unit.”

A policeman was reported to have assaulted Magistrate W.A.O. Meigbope of the Isolo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos last Thursday at Isolo and prevented him from  entering the court.

The policeman and others were said to  have been drafted there to maintain security during the burial of the late Fuji music icon, Barrister Sikiru Ayinde  Barrister.
