Alhaji Surajo Umar, the District Head of Danzomo in Suletankarkar Local Government of Jigawa, has cautioned against gatherings at weddings and naming ceremonies to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Umar gave the warning in Danzomo on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen, shortly after attending a meeting with village and ward heads in the district.

He reiterated that such gatherings in the district would violate the state and federal government’s directive banning public gatherings.

“As you are all aware, the order banning public gatherings is active, and it is in our own interest to obey it because coronavirus can easily be spread through such events.

“Let me warn you that punitive measures await anyone who violates the order; government is serious about it,” the district head said.

Umar said that the chiefs have been directed to inform him about Danzomo natives who returned from high-risk areas in order to determine their health status.

He charged them to continue to educate clerics and households on the need to maintain social distancing and practice basic hygiene to stop the spread of the disease.

The district head urged the residents to avoid rumour about COVID-19, advising them to always seek for information about the pandemic from experts and relevant authorities.
