Kano under immediate lockdown, Buhari orders

President Muhammadu Buhari ordered Monday night the enforcement of a total lockdown of Kano State with immediate effect.

The lockdown will be imposed for two weeks.

Buhari made the announcement in a simulcast on efforts by government to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

Kano, where there were reports of many deaths in recent days got prominent attention in the broadcast.

Buhari said his government shall deploy all the necessary human, material and technical resources to support the State in controlling and containing the pandemic and preventing the risk of further spread to neighbouring States.

The President expressed concerns about Kano.

“Although an in-depth investigation is still on-going, we have decided to deploy additional Federal Government manpower, material and technical resources to strengthen and support the State Government’s efforts, with immediate effect”, he announced.
