Landlord Drags Tenant To Court Over Assault

A landlord, Johnson Olubodun of 16, Titus Fakeye Street, Isuti Road, Igando, Lagos has dragged his tenant, Phillip Elson, before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for not cleaning his house.

The landlord claimed that Philip who has been his tenant for several years, was fond of rubbing his dirty hands on the walls of his house.

This not only led to the landlord giving him a notice to pack out of his house but also led to a fight between them.

The landlord later reported him at the police station for assaulting him and he was arrested and charged to court on a two-count charge of assault and breach of public peace, offences that are contrary to sections 249 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.

The matter has been adjourned till 24 January, 2011 while the defendant was remanded in prison custody until he meets the bail conditions.
