Police Flood Abuja With Anti Terrorism Squad Men
The Nigeria Police has stepped up security in Abuja as the city get set to host the national convention of major political parties which will lead to selection of their presidential candidates this week.
PM NEWS observed massive deployment of fierce looking men, fully armed men of the Anti Terrorism Squad of the Nigerian Police at major entrance and junctions at the city this morning.
Areas where the ATS men were observed include AYA which was the only entrance to the city for vehicles coming from states like Nassarawa, Gombe, Plateau and Bauchi.
The specially trained officers were deployed in threes and fours at the different strategic areas.
The ATS men were also seen at areas around the NNPC national headquarters and at the road leading to the city from the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport.
PM NEWS also observed that the the ATS men only stop suspicious vehicles and individuals for questioning and were not carrying out general checking of vehicles.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police, Olusola Amore said there is nothing unusual about the deployment of the ATS men in the city as it is in tune with the responsibility of the Police to provide security.
Amore added that the deployment is in response to the emerging security challenges across the country especially recent incidents of bomb blasts.
He told PM NEWS that the Police decided to increase its presence in the and visibility to counter the security challenges.
