I Fear My Hubby, Wife Tells Court
Mrs. Taiwo Adegbuyi, 32, on Monday told a Customary Court Grade 1, Ake, Abeokuta, that she always felt uncomfortable anytime she saw her husband.
Testifying in a case of divorce she filed against her husband, Taiwo said, “I feel unpleasant, I am always afraid whenever I see him.â€
The woman said that her heartbeat increased whenever she saw her husband, and attributed the panic to frequent beatings from him.
She told the court that they had been married for five years with three children.
She said that she packed out of her husband’s house some months ago with their three children because of the way she was being treated.
Taiwo also alleged that her husband, Dayo Adegbuyi, beat her so often, adding that this had sent her to the hospital on two occasions.
She further explained that her husband had the habit of monitoring her movements around the town, adding that she did not have freedom of movement.
Taiwo, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the union.
But the husband, Dayo Adegbuyi, 46, debunked his wife’s claims, and said that there was no iota of truth in them.
He, however, admitted that he used to beat his wife, but quickly added that her wife’s claims were exaggerated.
Dayo disclosed that he had cause to beat his wife because she was having extra-marital affairs.
“I have caught her with concubines on several occasions,†he added.
He, however, said that he was not ready to divorce her, because he believed his wife could still change for the better.
Dayo, therefore, urged the court to prevail on his wife to withdraw the divorce application for the sake of their children.
The President of the Court, Mrs. Christiana Olaleye, ordered the estranged couple to come with their family members at the next adjourned date.
She, thereafter, adjourned further hearing to Jan. 18.
