80 Ibeju Lekki youths arraigned for attacking Police Stations, injuring five cops

The Police in Lagos have arrested 80 youths in Ibeju Lekki and charged them before the Igbosere Chief Magistrates' Court, for allegedly attacking two Police Stations at Akodo and Orimede area, destroying properties valued N570,000 and inflicting serious injuries on five police officers on lawful duty.

The Police in Lagos have arrested 80 youths in Ibeju Lekki and charged them before the Igbosere Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly attacking two Police Stations at Akodo and Orimede area, destroying properties valued N570,000 and inflicting serious injuries on five police officers on lawful duty.
Police identified some of the accused person as Segun Adeyemi, 29; Christian Duru 23; Afeez Ayodele, 25 and Bakare Yusuf, 20.
There are also Kazeem Rama, 25; Moses Awolowo 26; Yusuf Mohammed, 30; Jamiu Osiberu, 37 and 70 others.
Police also identified the injured officers as Corporal Seyi Ayandosu, Inspector Ayodele Oguntola, Inspector Johnson Kolawale, Inspector Ejeje Egbala and Inspector Abideen Akintoye.
All the injured police officers, according to the Police are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Lagos.
All the accused were arraigned on an 11-count charge of unlawful damage of properties valued N570,000 at the two Police Stations, attacking police officers on lawful duty with dangerous weapon occasioning grievous bodily harm and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
Police counsel, DSP Yetunde Cardoso, the Officer in charge of legal matters at the Lagos State Police Command told the Court that the accused persons committed the offence in April 2020 at Akodo and Orimede area of Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
Cardoso informed the court presided over by Magistrate Doja Ojo that the accused persons took the law into their hands and invaded Akodo and Orimede Police Stations to damage properties valued N 570,000 and injured five police officers on lawful duty at the two stations with dangerous weapons for unjustifiable reasons.
She said the offences, the accused persons committed were punishable under sections 411, 412, 45, 35 (a) (1) 174 and 166(d) of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.
All the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Doja Ojo granted them N50,000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum.
Ojo adjourned the case till 8 June, 2020, for mention and ordered that all the defendants be kept at a Police Station in Lagos till they perfected their bail conditions.
