The World Health Organisation(WHO) said over 130 potential COVID-19 vaccines are in development around the world, at least six at preclinical trial.

WHO says 133 potential vaccines for COVID-19 in the works

The World Health Organisation(WHO) said 133 potential COVID-19 vaccines are at various stages around the world.

According to a document on its website, 10 of the potential vaccines are in preclinical trials.

But WHO also said four of the trials have been “‘inactivated”.

The inactivated trials were at three Chinese institutions and Sinovac.

The inactivated vaccines were being developed at Wuhan Institute of Biological Products and Beijing Institute of Biological Products.

Also inactivated was the effort at the Institute of Medical Biology and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

Trials continued at University of Oxford, UK, Beijing Institute of Biotechnology and Inovio Pharmaceuticals in the U.S.

BioNTech/FosunPharma/Pfizer, Novavax and Moderna/NIAID are the other active vaccine developers involved in preclinical trials.

The other 123 potential vaccines are still at pre-clinical evaluation around the world.

University of Tokyo, Tulane University, the University of Alberta and the University of Pittsburgh are making the evaluations, according to the WHO.
