The Nigeria Police Force has trained more than 1,000 police officers and men on methods of identifying and combating terrorism in the country.

Mr. Hassan Adamu, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Anti-Terrorism Squad, Force Headquarters, Abuja, made this known in an interview with the News  Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.

He said that the training became necessary in view of the threats posed by terrorism to global peace and development.

The commissioner said that besides those officers and men who had passed out from the training, more of such personnel were being trained, while more would  also be trained.

Adamu said that the police had established anti-terrorism bases in Lagos, Imo, Rivers and Nasarawa states as well as the FCT.

He said that efforts were on to establish more in Bauchi, Yobe and Borno states as part of efforts to curb the menace in the country.

Adamu noted that more anti-terrorism bases would be established in some states.

The police chief said that some achievements had been recorded since the establishment of anti-terrorism units in some states, citing the peace and security  recorded in Abia of late.

Adamu appealed to Nigerians to assist the police with information that would lead to the curbing of anti-terrorism in the country to protect lives and  property.

On the welfare of officers and men of the anti-terrorism units, he said government had taken care of that including the purchase of equipment.
