Deputy Governor Spends 3 Hours To Register
With the malfunctioning of the Direct Data Capturing, DDC machines, it took the INEC officials in Anambra State three hours to register the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Emeka Sibeudu and his wife.
The deputy governor and his wife had gone to a registration centre at Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area headquarters to register on Monday.
At the centre, the state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukogu with other of his officials tried their best ti register Sibeudu and his wife. But this could not be done earlier than three hours.
Hundreds of other adults who were eager to register were therefore forced to queue behind the deputy governor and his wife.
Speaking with journalists, the REC, Prof. Onukogu admitted the lapses and problems with the commencement of the voter registration exercise.
“There are problems and hitches in parts of the state at this early stage of the excercise. But I have no doubt in my mind that in the next few days, all the problems will be over,†Onukogu said, stating that he was on a tour of some centres in company of some internet,( IT) experts from Awka.
He said the inability of the officials to operate the DDC machines had been reported to INEC headquarters and that the problem was currently receiving attention.
Onukogu said delivery of the machines to Anambra had just started, adding that more machines were expected to be delivered very soon.
