INEC Registers 775,000 Eligible Voters In Sokoto

INEC Commissioner in Sokoto, Ahmed Mahuata said on Sunday that about 775,000  eligible voters have so far been registered in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mahuata was speaking shortly after  monitoring some registration centres in Sokoto metropolis.

He expressed satisfaction with the turnout of people, especially women who came out  in large numbers to register.

He said that already steps had been taken to address some of the challenges  witnessed at the commencement of the exercise.

“We will ensure availability of cartridges and voters’ register among others to  ensure hitch free exercise,” he said.

Mahuata warned against registering of underage children, describing it as illegal as  any one caught would be prosecuted.

He eadded that it was a crime for underage children to be registered and called on  traditional and religious leaders to sensitise their people on the dangers involved  in such action.

The INEC commissioner called on the people to come out en masse to participate in  the exercise for the overall political growth of the state.

In Ekiti State, the Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), retired  Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade has sought the co-operation and encouragements of  Nigerians toward the success of the ongoing voter registration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minister made the appeal in a chat  with journalists on Sunday at Ipoti-Ekiti in Ijero Council area of Ekiti State.

Olubolade, who was the former Bayelsa State Military Administrator, said that the  Prof. Attahiru Jega-led Commission would make success out of the voter registration.
