Lagos To Offer Free Ride To Registered Voters

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to offer Lagosians who have registered in the ongoing voter registration exercise free ride on the Bus Rapid Transit, BRT buses owned by LAGBUS Asset Management Limited.         According to the Managing Director, LAGBUS Asset Management Limited, Mr. Babatunde Disu, the free ride on the red BRT would take place on Thursday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 3p.m.

He said at a news conference yesterday in Lagos, South West Nigeria that the voter’s card would serve as ticket for the two days, saying that once commuters tender their original voter’s card, they would be allowed to board the buses free.

“The voters card will be your fare that day and once you present it, you will be allowed to board the buses to any destination free. The idea behind this is to get many people to register to vote.

“If you don’t get yourself registered, you lose your right to vote. We will like various organizations that support democracy to come out and encourage people to register and vote,” he said.

Disu supported the call by several Lagosians on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to extend the voter registration exercise.
