How I Was Shot In Mushin Gang War, Victim Narrates Ordeal

One of the survivors of the endless gang wars in Mushin, Idi-Oro and Fadeyi areas of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, Oluwoye Olujimi, has narrated how he was shot by the hoodlums fighting for supremacy in the areas.

Olujimi thanked God that he did not die when he was shot because his in-law, Amusa Adisa, 65 who was also shot during the 13 January fracas at Idi-Oro, Mushin died from bullet wounds.

According to him, three policemen from a team dispatched from the Alakara Police Station, Mushin to quell the riot were also not spared as they were shot by the rampaging gangsters.

The three, Supol Daniel Owolabi was shot on his left leg; Corporal Olabisi Adedayo received gunshot on his right ear while Constable Victor Afolabi was shot in the stomach. They were rushed to the hospital where they are still receiving treatment.

Narrating how he was shot by the gangsters, Olujimi who lives at Idi-Oro, said he was on his way to the hospital with his in-law to pay hospital bill so that his wife could be discharged when he saw people running helter-skelter and gunshots were being fired by the hoodlums indiscriminately.

“I was on my way to the hospital to settle the bill for the discharge of my wife with my late in-law when we saw people running helter-skelter at Idi-Oro Railway Line. We also took to our heels and hid inside a toilet in a building. To our surprise, one of the armed gangsters saw us and shot at both of us. That was all I knew. I believe the residents who heard the gunshots later came to our rescue after the police had restored order and rushed us to the hospital.

”It was later I was told that my in-law died before doctors could attend to him due to excessive loss of blood,” he narrated.

Olujimi also appealed to the state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola and the state Commissioner of Police, Marvel Akpoyibo, to find a lasting solution to the incessant clashes in the areas.

“I am now calling on Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State and the Commissioner of Police, Marvel Akpoyibo to find a lasting solution to the unnecessary supremacy battle among hoodlums which has led to dozens being killed in Mushin, Idi-Oro and Fadeyi.

In their own account, the police at Alakara division alleged that on 13 January, 2011 at about 1400 hrs., they received a distress call that armed men were fighting and that a team of policemen were dispatched there to restore order.

When the armed gangs sighted the policemen, they opened fire on them and the policemen retaliated. The police claimed that in the ensuing gun battle, three of their men were injured and rushed to the hospital.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the two suspects arrested during the fracas with arms, Muda and Wale, a.k.a. Shawonpa, have been transferred to the State CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

A police source at the interrogation department confirmed the presence of the suspects, adding that they would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
