INEC Register 30,000 In Ibadan

INEC has registered 30,000 eligible voters in Ibadan North West Local Government  Area of Oyo State, 11 days into the commencement of the ongoing voter registration.

Mr. Adelodun Davies, Electoral Officer of the Commission in the council revealed  this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN on Wednesday at  Dugbe/Onireke, headquarters of the Council.

He cited inadequate ink for the printer as the major challenge hampering  registration of voters in the council.

“We don’t have problem here, this place is peaceful, the corps members did not riot,  they cooperated with me.

“But we have challenges of ink and the toner is not sufficient; toner to print our  daily reports, but I have contacted the headquarters; they are making effort to give  us enough toner.

“From my calculations, we have registered 30,000 eligible voters,” he told NAN.

The Electoral Officer recalled that at the start of the exercise on Jan. 15, he  received 84 Direct Data Capturing (DDC) machines out of the 160 needed for the  exercise in all the 11 wards of the local government.

“At the start of the exercise, I was given 84 DDC machines, but the balance of 76  units were given to me the following day, so now I have the full complement of 160  DDC machines now and they are all working,” he said. Davies said, however, that few  of the machines had minor problems and that “they have repaired them and are  returning them to us.”

The INEC official said that he was not sure of the number of those expected to  register at these wards. “I cannot say accurately, but the DDC machine has the  capacity to register 750 voters. After that, we will download the data and the  machine will start from number one again.

“There is no limit to the number we can register, it is as far as the population of  an area requires, there is no limit to the number we can register, but those who are  18 years and above are eligible to register,” he said.
