Politicians Mobilise Foreigners To Register
The Immigration Command in Adamawa has accused some politicians of mobilising foreigners to register in the ongoing voter registration.
The State Comptroller of Immigration, Alhaji Yunusa Lerama, revealed this in Yola on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Yunusa said some politicians in Belel area of Maiha Local Government Area of the state, which shares borders with Cameroon, were mobilising Cameroonians to register.
He said: “They are even giving them bicycles to ride and cross over for the registration exercise.
“I have placed my men on the alert and ordered them not to allow the foreigners to register, and that anyone caught should be arrested and brought to Yola.â€
The comptroller said his men were working in all the 21 local government areas of the state to discourage foreigners from participating in the exercise.
He said his officers were also removing the foreigners from registration queues, adding that where they were found to have registered their cards were confiscated.
“So far, we have confiscated 30 voters’ cards from Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas,†Yunusa said.
He appealed to the public, particularly politicians and community leaders, to discourage foreigners from registering in the interest of the nation.
