APN Tells INEC Not To Extend Registration

The Freedom Party of Nigeria (FPN) on Wednesday called on INEC to adhere strictly to  its timetable in order not to cause problem for the entire electoral process.

Chief Frank Ohwofa, the National Chairman, who made the call in Abuja during an  interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said there was no need to allow  political parties to go against the existing timetable.

According to him, any favour to a political party will dash all hopes of Nigerians  on credible polls.

“There should not be any favoritism to any political party because it will cause  lacuna for the entire electoral process.

“Any alteration will otherwise dash all aspirations of Nigerians for credible  elections as our hopes on the credibility of Prof. Attahiru Jega will also decline.

“If a waiver can be granted to any party, INEC must grant same to other parties  too,” he added.

The national chairman called on all political parties to view current situations  where parties were insisting on re-run primaries after the Jan. 15 dateline with  concern, ensuring that PDP was not favoured.

He threatened to sue INEC for any illegal alteration except when the general  elections had been shifted as earlier canvassed by the political parties.

Ohwofa called for the extension of voter registration to enable Nigerians get  adequately registered.

He decried technical and logistics aspects of the registration, noting the slow pace  where 25 people were being registered for a whole day in some centres.

Similarly, Alhaji Mohammed Danazumi, National Secretary of the Democratic Peoples  Party (DPP) called for an extension of the voter registration in order to  accommodate all Nigerians of voting age.

Danazumi decried hiccups resulting from technical aspect of the exercise, noting  that Nigerians had suffered much and expressed satisfaction in the enthusiasm by  people to participate in spite of difficulties.

He, however, commended INEC for demonstrating its desire to ensure a credible  election, saying that “the process will be a successful one.’’

“INEC should be commended and encouraged for demonstrating sincerity in the conduct  of credible elections with this voter registration and their spontaneous response to  complaints.

“We of the DPP are calling for an extension of the exercise to make more Nigerians  participate.

“I believe that the April general elections will be better than previous ones,”  Danazumi added
