Igbinedion Denies Registering At Home
The Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, has debunked the rumours making the rounds that INEC officials registered him in his Benin residence.
The Esama in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Benin said that he registered at a registration centre near his residence on Saturday, Jan. 22.
He said that after the registration, he left with the hope of collecting his voter’s card later as it was the practice with INEC.
The Benin high chief said that his registration was covered by journalists.
“Surprisingly on Jan. 24, as I was going to the Festival Hall Government House for swearing-in of commissioners, INEC officials approached me that they were unable to capture my voter’s card due to malfunction of their machines and would like to repeat the exercise,†he stated.
The Esama said that he obliged them and that the exercise did not last for more than 10 minutes.
But the PDP at a news conference on Tuesday in Benin alleged that the Esama was registered in his Benin residence.
Mr. Owere Imasogie, Deputy Chairman, who spoke said that INEC officials registered the Benin high chief in his residence on Jan. 22.
The party accused the Edo Government of manipulating the registration on the guise of assisting INEC.
