Court Adjourns Trial Of Community Leaders
A Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igbosere has adjourned till February 4, 2011, further trial in a five-count charge of alleged stealing and malicious damage filed against two community leaders in Ishawo Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The accused, David Olalekan Orisan, the Baale of Ishawo and Kabiru Aboki Bada, were arraigned with one Jemilaat Ogbe (now deceased) for the offences, punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
According to the Police, the accused persons and others now at large, were alleged to have stolen 2,500 blocks valued at N225,000, property of one Chief Sunday Ovba on 18 August, 2003 at Ishawo village.
They were also alleged to have unlawfully and wilfully damaged the foundation of a building, an offence contrary to Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused persons were also alleged to have demolished a building at Araromi Quarters, belonging to one James Oladimeji, valued at N4 million.
The adjournment of the case last Thursday followed the absence of one of the accused person, Orisan.
They had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges.
