Cobbler Docked Over Attempted Rape

A clobber, Musibau Raimi, has been docked at an Itire Magistrate’s Court for allegedly attempting to rape a mother of three at Iyana Itire, Lagos.

Raimi, who is facing a three-count charge of assault, attempt to rape and stealing, was said to have committed the alleged offences on Jan. 28.

The prosecutor, Mr. Lucky Efegheremoni, said the victim was on a business trip to buy cow skin, popularly called pomo, when Raimi dragged her into a nearby bush and attempted to rape her.

According to Efegheremoni, the woman was saved by some passersby.

He said that the accused also stole N10,000 belonging to the victim.

The offence, he said, was contrary to and punishable under Sections 355, 359 and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, 2004.

Raimi pleaded not guilty to the charges, saying he never saw the woman before and that it was likely to be a case of mistaken identity.

The magistrate, Miss Abimbola Awogboro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety who must have substantial means of livelihood.

She adjourned the case till March 8 for further hearing.
