Lagos Tackles Auto Dealers Over Registration
Thousands of Auto and Spare Parts Dealers in the Lagos metropolis have been advised by the Lagos State Government to register their businesses or face prosecution.
Many auto and spare parts dealers have flagrantly violated government’s order to get their businesses registered with N50, 000.
Commissioner for Transportation, Prof. Bamidele Badejo, warned motorists to stop patronising unregistered persons who were operating at illegal locations in their own interest, saying that Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, MVAA, has put in place a tripartite arrangement under which a registered dealer would serve as a link between a genuine seller and buyer of either a registered or unregistered used imported vehicle.
The commissioner bemoaned the attitude of the dealers who were still operating without registering with the appropriate authority.
He added that such people were operating illegally in the state, saying that efforts had been made to enlighten the dealers through stakeholders’ meetings and the media.
Badejo advised those who were yet to register with the MVAA to do so urgently to avoid being prosecuted in the court.
The commissioner stated that all auto and spare parts dealers ought to have registered their businesses within 30 days of operation in the state.
Badejo warned unregistered individuals displaying vehicles for sale at roadsides, frontage of residential houses and mechanic workshops to desist from the act as it violated the law of the state. He said
