Tout Jailed 3 Months
A 25-year-old tout, Lateef Ahmed, was on Monday sentenced to three months imprisonment without an option of fine, for assaulting a commercial motorcyclist.
Ahmed, a member of a group which called itself “motorcycle taskforce’, was docked at the Somolu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for assaulting Ganiyu Lateef, a commercial motorcyclist.
The convict pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of assault before Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi.
The prosecutor, Pc Kolawole Olomi, said that the accused unlawfully assaulted Lateef by stabbing him with a broken bottle on both arms, thererby causing him bodily harm.
Olomi told the court that Ahmed belonged to a local task force that engaged in collecting money from commercial motorcyclists at parks.
He explained that the accused had on Feb. 4 stopped the complainant at the park in order to collect the fee for the day’s ticket but the latter refused to stop.
“Ahmed later in the evening went to Lateef’s house to demand for the money which the complainant failed to pay at the park, and this led to a fight,†he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence was committed on Feb. 4 at Adewale Ayuba Str., Anthony Village. Lagos.
He said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
