Apapa Residents Condemn Parking Of Fuel Tankers
The indiscriminate parking of fuel tankers on Cadosso and Saint Joseph streets and its environs in Apapa Local Government Area, Lagos state, southwest Nigeria, have become a source of concern to residents and they have called on the Lagos state government to come to their rescue.
The residents said parking of fuel tankers where people reside is as dangerous as setting the people on fire.
They informed Lagos Bulletin that apart from the danger associated with the contents of the tanker, they usually experience traffic jam which they said is caused by the trucks.
They urged the Lagos state government to ensure that drivers of such tankers are compelled to use the trucks terminal at Orile, or provide parking spaces for their trucks and save them from avoidable danger.
Mr. Obajimi Taiwo, a resident of Cadosso street, said, “the influx of tanker drivers to our street requires urgent attention because the situation is giving us sleepless nights.
“Though nobody prays for bad things to happen but in case of a fire outbreak, there is no way out for residents of this area.
“Another problem is that the drivers of the trucks don’t consider the movement of residents. They park their trucks just about anywhere and when we want to go out or come in, we always encounter traffic congestion.
“We are appealing to the state government to come to save us from this dangerous situation.
Another resident, who identified himself as Mr. smith said most of the time, they have to call on the drivers to remove their vehicles before they can get access to their residence.
Smith said that the people of the community have made several appeals to the tanker drivers over the problem created by their indiscriminate parking but they have always been ignored by the recalcitrant truck drivers.
