Youths Hail Akunyili, Endorse Senatorial Bid

A cross section of Nigerian youths have endorsed the senatorial bid of erstwhile Minister of  Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Nkem Akunyili, and vowed to work to ensure that she  realises her ambition.

In a flurry of messages sent to her Facebook Page, the youths unanimously rated Akunyili, the flag  bearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra Central Senatorial District, as the  best among the candidates seeking the people’s votes during the April 2, 2011 elections.

According to Isaac Umunna, Special Assistant (Media) to Akunyili, the former minister has almost  24,000 fans on Facebook, most of them youths.

Many of the youths described Akunyili’s decision to run for Senate as an answer to their prayers and  assured her of every needed support to actualise her ambition.

“Your decision to go into politics tells me that you actually read our comments posted on your page,”  wrote Nnebedum Francis Chineme. “You made a sound decision and you have all the support you need from  me. Go, Dora go! We love you.”

Ifediora Larry wrote: “God is with you. Anambrarians need people like you in the National Assembly:  those who can stand up to the challenges of the time, to hearken to the yearnings and aspirations of  the common people. May the grace and favour of God Almighty remain with you on this cause.”

Expressing similar sentiments, Joyce Ossai-Emmanuel said: “We need you in the Senate to experience  what true democracy and patriotism is. This is time for change in Nigeria and God will place more  credible people in leadership positions of this country. I have been praying for you. I am your  greatest fan. God bless.”

Another fan, Obinna Offor, said he was convinced that “Anambra Central will prefer an educated senator  instead of what they are having now,” adding: “I wish you good luck, woman of substance.”
