Group Seeks Removal Of NIMASA Boss
Members of the Association of Good Leadership Advocates, Peace and Development, AGLAPD, have threatened to drag the federal government to court over the appointment of Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi as the Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety, NIMASA.
In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the association, Alhaji Sanni Shinkafi, the association disclosed that NIMASA is too important to the maritime industry to be left in the hands of an inexperienced university teacher whose calling has nothing to do with navigation, shipping and transportation.
“We are not against Akpobolokemi being appointed into any other positions in the country but certainly not that of a sensitive agency like NIMASA which requires an experienced technician to manage effectively,†Shinkafi stated.
The association revealed that the appointment of Akpobolokemi, as expected, has started generating negative reactions from stakeholders in the maritime sector.
“As important stakeholders in the sector, we will no longer close our eyes to illegalities either from the federal, state or local governments in the leadership of government agencies because at the end of the day it will have a negative effect on our operations,†Shinkafi added.
He appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to remove Akpobolokemi immediately and replace him with a competent maritime expert.
