Rights Group Gives CJN 2-Week Ultimatum
Association for the Protection and Defence of Human Rights based in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria has asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu to resign within two weeks following the allegations levelled against him by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Isa Salami.
The group said Justice KatsinaAlu has no moral justification to continue to occupy that position because the allegations levelled agaist him were weighty and was coming from a senior member of the bar.
The group threatened that if he did not resign within two weeks, it will have no option than to head to the court to remove him.
“The allegations have dealt a serious blow on his honour and integrity to continue as the Chief Justice of Nigeria. The only thing left for him is to resign because Nigerians have lost confidence in him,†the group stated.
While noting that Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognise the right to fair hearing, it stated that it will be in the interest of Justice Katsina-Alu to step aside to clear his name.
The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Salami had on Wednesday gone to the Abuja High Court, seeking an order restraining the CJN from removing him as the President of the Court of Appeal.
