Idera Community Grades Roads Through Self-help
Residents of Idera community in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, have commenced the grading of  roads in their community through self-help.
The exercise which was organised by the Community Development Association under the chairmanship of Mr. F.C. Akinseye will cost no less than N1.5 million.
Akinseye told P.M.NEWS that “The roads in the community have become so bad that vehicles and even motorcycles now find it difficult to come to the place and all our cries to the Ikorodu North Local Government for help have fallen on deaf ears hence we decided to tax ourselves to generate fund for the project,” adding that seventeen roads will be graded at the cost of about N1.5 million.”
The chairman of the road rehabilitation committee, Mr. Lateef Bello Aiyeloja, who also spoke with P.M.NEWS, said though it was not easy gathering the money, he  thanked members of the community for their cooperation.
According to Mr. Aiyeloja, each house was taxed N5,000 but some good spirited members of the community paid more. He appealed to the state government to come to the community’s aid by  constructing the drainage on the roads to avoid them being damaged when the rains come.
Also speaking with P.M.NEWS on the project, another member of the road project committee, Mr. Remi Adesokan, alerted members of the public not to be deceived by politicians in the area who have started to use the project as a campaign issue, claiming that they are the ones funding.
