Printer Charged With Murder
A commercial printer, Mr. Olanrewaju Ajewole, residing on 10, Ramoni Oke Street, Itire, Mushin Local Government Area, Lagos State has been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly stabbing his cousin, Olajide Mobolade, to death.
The accused was alleged to have committed the offence on 10 January, 2011, at their residence.
P.M.NEWS gathered that Olajide was killed while playing the role of a peacemaker between the accused and one of their neighbours, whom the accused had engaged in a duel.
The deceased, it was learnt, warned the accused not to fight with their neighbour, an older man, but the accused got annoyed and stabbed him with the screw driver which he intended to use on his opponent.
The charge against him reads: “That you, Olanrewaju Ajewole on 10 January, 2011, at about 12.30 p.m. on 10, Ramoni Oke Street, Itire, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill Olajide Mobolade, by stabbing him to death with a screw driver and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2003.
Olayiwola pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Kemi Doja-Ojo, ordered him to be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons, while the case was adjourned till 30 March for trial.
A drama ensued after the court had risen when the accused having heard that he should be remanded in prison custody, ran out of the court premises in his bid to escape but he was arrested by some police officers within the premises.
The accused, it was gathered, had earlier pretended to be sick when he was being detained at the State CID, Panti, Yaba.
