Five Held Over Hijack Of Cocoa Beans

The Apapa Port Police in Lagos have arrested five suspects  believed to have masterminded the hijack of a truck loaded with 400 bags of cocoa beans valued at N24 million.

P.M NEWS gathered that men in mobile Police uniform recently hijacked the truck with registration number  XX 776 LSR belonging to Mr Sikiru Adebayo at Oshodi while  heading for Apapa port. The hijackers unloaded the cocoa beans in an uncompleted building situated on Yinka Ogunsile Street, Opposite Igbo Oluwo Estate, Juniback Bus Stop, Ikorodu, Lagos.

However, policemen who had trailed them  arrest the owner of the building, Mrs Fawehinmi Olarenwaju; Mrs Bolanle Ajayi, Niyi Jacob, Femi Oyebanji and Ola Bello.

However, one Baba Nike who allegedly hired the uniformed men was said to have fled and has not been not been traced.

The police, therefore, urged members of the public who may have any information on the whereabouts of Baba Nike to report tp the nearest police station.

The sum of  N207,500 was recovered from the intended buyer of the stolen cocoa beans. The money has been kept by the police as exhibit.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Road Transport Employees Association, RTEA, Mr Sylvester Oresegun Keshinro, has urged security operatives to tighten security to forestall similar occurrence. Keshinro said the call became imperative because of the incessant harassment of truck owners and drivers in similar incidents in recent times.
