I Need A Challenger

National Lightweight champion, Kola Abimbola in this interview with ADEBOBOLA ALAWODE lamented his inability to defend the title that has been in his possession for a while also stating his readiness to take on any of his challenger.

How will you react to the demise of the former president of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, NBBof C, Prince Olaide Adeboye?
I must confess I’m yet to come to terms that he is no more. I received the news with mixed feelings because I thought it was a lie, until a member of the board confirmed it to me.

Now that he is dead, what will you miss about him?
To be sincere, I would miss a lot of things from him. He was like a father to me, his soothing words during his lifetime, his elderly words of advice and so many other things. I’m just short of words.

Away from that, what is the latest thing happening to you?
There is nothing much happening, just carrying on with my training as usual. I’ve going on with my training session and I don’t like skipping training because I like keeping fit.

Since you won your last fight you’ve not stepped into the ring what is happening?
You are very correct. I have not had the opportunity to fight because there are no promotions. The promoters are also not willing to sponsor fights so there is no way I can defend the title.

Since there are no fights, how do you fend for your family?
Apart from boxing, I’m into making boxing equipments like: punching bags, boxing trunks, boxing gloves and others.

Why are the promoters afraid of sponsoring fights?
I don’t have an idea why they are not willing to stage fights; I think something has to be done before the sponsors can start investing their money in boxing.
