Bizwoman Loses N8m To Employee
The Managing Director of a Lagos-based company, Health Plus Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Bukky George, is now counting her losses after losing a whopping N8m to an employee, Emmanuel Ndubuisi Ofuelo.
The 22-year old Emmanuel was alleged to have stolen the money after Mrs. George hired him as a staff of the company on fake names of Omodia Shedrack.
P.M.NEWS gathered that no sooner was Emmanuel employed than he started stealing the company’s money and paying it into his younger sister’s account.
The owner of the company, it was learnt, discovered that the amount was missing after she took stock of the goods in the store.
She reported the matter at the Special Fraud Unit, Milverton Road, Ikoyi and Emmanuel was arrested. He allegedly confessed to the crime and told the police that he paid the money into his sister’s account.
He and his sister, Chinelo Ofuelo, were charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for stealing under Sections 390 and 484 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mrs. F. O. Aigbokhaevbo granted them bail in the sum of N700,000 with two sureties.
The court ordered that the sureties must show evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State government and their addresses must be verified.
The matter has been adjourned till 4 March, 2011 while the accused were remanded in prison custody at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
