AWKA Stands Still For Sen. Annie Okonkwo
The ancient town of Awka which house the seat of power in Anambra State, literally stood still for Senator Annie Okonwko when he flagged off his second term bid for Anambra Central under a brand new platform- the Accord Party.
The popular Emmaus House Complex and all adjourning streets was closed to traffic as early as 8.am for the 10.am event.
The live broadcast of the declaration by a National TV and Radio station was the first of its kind East of the Niger, by a Senatorial candidate ahead of the April Polls. This, political watchers, opponents and commentators has described as taking the campaign to its highest.
In what appeared to be a massive endorsement by the Conference of National Political Parties (CNPP) led by its chairman in the state, Comrade Jude Ezenwafor.
The CNPP Chairman who led 23 other parties chairmen to give support to the incumbent Senator Annie based their conviction on what they said was his five star performance in the National Assembly.
In his address to the crowd, Senator Annie Okonkwo expressed satisfaction with the massive confidence the people have given him before, and which they are prepared to renew.
He declared in categorical terms that his passionate thirst to serve his people has indeed translated into a lifetime of service with pride.
The Senator known for his agitation for the creation of a new state in the South East, promised that his next tenure would see that dream come true, so that the imbalance in whooping budgetary loss to Ndigbos would abate. He also expressed his preparedness to work in union with other law makers to ensure that the nation is returned to a true federation as was the case in 1963 which according to him would engender equality, competitiveness and development among the federating states.
The Erosion Control Crusader vowed to mobilize funds, people and governments to give the menace a one-all treatment, promising that Accord Party remain the vehicle to achieve this.
In his welcome address, the Director General of Senator Annie Okonkwo campaign Organization Hon. Christian Okeke was full of praises for the senator for setting up the Agunechemba foundation since 2007 which he said has cater for the welfare of the needy and the less privileged.
He recalled that the foundation has granted scholarship to over 150 students of tertiary institutions from Anambra Central Senatorial Zone and beyond.
