Boat Operators Threaten Strike

Boat Operators in Rivers State may embark on  strike ahead of the April Polls to protest the neglect of water transportation by the state government. This indication was given by Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, Rivers State Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Seamen, Industrial and Commercial District in a media parley.

Comrade Abi described as unfortunate the Ameachi government’s insensitivity  to the plight of the Riverine communities  and to the safety and well-being of private boat operators in the state

He said that contrary to claims of a return of security on the state’s waterways, the Private Boat Operators had continued to be attacked by  pirates on  water routes in the state.

Comrade Abi lamented that the state government has always embraced Road Transport Workers Union, by giving them free buses to facilitate their operations, but regretted that those of them in the water transportation, have always been neglected.
