Landlord Lands In Trouble Over Illegal Ejection

A landlord, Alhaji Mohammed Rasheed, 66 has been charged before the Isolo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos for allegedly ejecting his tenant, Mrs. Mamomu Fatima from her apartment on 24, Agbebi Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos Southwest Nigeria without giving her notice to quit.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the landlord used a padlock to lock the apartment when the tenant had gone to work and when she returned could not enter her room.

The tenant claimed that she was not owing him but the landlord said he took the action because the tenant refused to pay her rent.

It was learnt that the relationship between the landlord and the tenant went sour following the unpaid rent and attempts by neighbours to settle the matter proved abortive.

The tenant reported the matter to the police at Ijeshatedo station and the landlord was arrested and charged to court.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. W.A.O. Meigbope granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

The matter has been adjourned till 23 March, 2011.
