Civil Defence Arrests 142 Vandals, Impounds 42 Tankers
At least, 142 vandals have been arrested and 42 oil tankers impounded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC in the last one month.
This was disclosed by the Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos Command, Mallam Dauda Mungadi at the weekend when the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Yakubu Alkali paid a visit to the NSCDC, Lagos Command, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, South West Nigeria.
Mungadi disclosed that the command had been very proactive in the battle against vandals in Lagos State, and that the corps would continue to battle vandals at all times.
He said between January 2011 and now, about 142 vandals were arrested while 42 oil tankers were impounded from criminals vandalising public properties.
The commandant stated that the primary responsibilities of the corps was that of disaster management and waging war against vandals across the country, and that other responsibilities of the command were secondary and complementary.
However, he raised salient issues as regards the ongoing war of supremacy between the police and the civil defence.
“There is no need for us to fight for supremacy. We should collaborate to fight crime. We are your younger brother. Our main goals are in the area of disaster management and waging war against pipeline vandals,†he stated.
Mungadi called for collaboration between the police and the command, saying that his command was willing to give the police information as to the hideout of hoodlums in order to ensure peace in the state.
“We are ready for a relationship with you. We are duty bound to assist the police. We all know our responsibilities and there is no need for us to fight,†he said.
