Northern Group Slams Red Carpet Reception For Bode George
The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF has condemned in strong terms the red carpet reception given to Chief Bode George, who recently gained freedom from prison.
The forum believes that an ex-convict like Bode George should not be given any recognition in the society, particularly that he was sent to prison for stealing funds belonging to the society.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Mr. Anthony Sani, ACF frowned at a situation where some ex-convicts and criminals are glorified after looting public treasury. It observed it was not the first time such receptions were given to ex-criminals convicted in the country.
The forum further pointed out that it observed that the PDP has a passion for according red carpet receptions for discredited politicians, noting “Governor Fasoye of Ekiti State, Governor Alamasiegha of Bayelsa State and Governor Dariye of Plateau State, all of whom were indicted for looting public treasury in the past enjoyed red carpet reception.
The ACF also said the “thanks giving services†for corrupt leaders in churches and mosques, as well as honorary awards and traditional titles to people known to have turned their private pockets into commonwealth are unacceptable and should be discouraged immediately.
The Forum pointed out that if government’s campaigns against corruption has any meaning and must yield positive result, then corruption as a stigma must find itself into popular consciousness, instead of being honoured and glorified by government functionaries like former presidents, religious leaders and traditional leaders
