Councillor Speaks Out On Abandoned Old Man

A Councillor in Odi Olowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area has refuted claims by residents of Mushin that he made no effort to cater for the abandoned old man living in a shed on 195, Rail Line, Mushin, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

Nureni Lawal, representing Ward C2, told P.M.NEWS that he made efforts to provide shelter, clothes and health care for the aged Baba Kokumo, but his overtures were turned down by relations of the old man.

Lawal said he had agreed with the late Mama Tawa to move Baba Kokumo, who had stroke, to the hospital but her death stalled the plan.

“I went to the shed where the abandoned man was staying with the late Mama Tawa and some officials of the council. I was informed that it was Mama Tawa who brought Baba here. I also went with the woman to some relations of the old man living at Idi-Oro train station but they did not cooperate with me.

“When the council wanted to demolish the shed where Baba Kokumo was staying, I intervened and made arrangement to move him to the hospital but the late Mama Tawa was nowhere to be found.

“People are blaming the government for not taking care of Baba Kokumo but it is everybody’s responsibility to take care of the aged ones in our midst,” he stated and promised to do all he can to take care of the abandoned old man.
