We Will Not Leave Any Abandoned Project In Lagos, Says Fashola
As Governor’s campaign train moves to Shomolu Local Government Area, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Saturday declared that as long as the Action Congress of Nigeria remains in power in Lagos, the state would not suffer the burden of abandoned projects.

Governor Fashola, who spoke at the Angus Memorial High School, Shomolu, venue of the ACN Mega rally in continuation of his campaign for a second term in office, said unlike the Peoples Democratic Party controlled Federal Government which has posted 750 abandoned projects across the country in the last 12 years, no ACN controlled government would abandon any project it initiated.
“We have proved to you, in the last 12 years, that we are a party to be trusted. When we make promises we keep them and we are telling you again that we will never burden you with any abandoned projects as long as you keep us in powerâ€, Governor Fashola said.
Pointing out that the venue of the rally was one of the promises which his administration made and kept to Shomolu Local Government, Governor Fashola also declared, “We have mapped out 14 roads in our 2011 Budget for Shomolu and its environs. We have also rehabilitated three streets and completed six drainages in this community in the last four years.â€.
Another important project in the pipeline for Shomolu is a Dedicated Power Project aimed at powering Shomolu and its high concentration for printing companies, the governor said, adding that his administration had already commissioned a Power Audit from which report the government would commence the project as soon as it is ready.
“My opponent in the ruling party who wants to take my job told you that he will call the Federal Government to come and solve problems of Lagos State. But I tell him, if he wants the job of a minister, he should apply for that. It is my job as the governor to solve the problems of Lagos State.
“Moreover, the Federal Government has problems of its own which it has shown incapacity to solve. You have seen 12 years of incompetence, 12 years of ineptitude and gross inefficiency on the part of the Federal Government. That is the government my opponent wants to bring to Lagos,†the governor said.
He observed that the incompetence of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in managing the nation’s crude oil exploration has led to the pollution of the underground water which has resulted in the pollution of the natural water, adding that this is largely responsible for some of the deadly diseases like cancer now prevalent in the country.
“That is why we are building and equipping specialist hospitals across the state to ensure that we take care of your health. They say we are rascals, but we are radical transformers of the environment,†Governor Fashola said.
Urging the people to return the ACN to power at all levels in the coming elections, the governor declared, “We have presented before you an array of candidates who we know will do the job. We know that they are capable. Vote them in en masse. You gave the PDP yellow card in 2003, you gave the party another yellow card in 2007, you must give it a red in 2011 because it has proved that it cannot perform.â€
Earlier, in her remark, the First Lady, Dame Abimbola Fashola had told the thousands of party members and supporters that the ACN is the only party that can guarantee their welfare and ensure that they enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The First Lady also thanked the people for their support for the administration in the last four years, adding that their vote for the ACN in the next election would be a vote for continuity of progress and good governance in the state.
Also in her remarks, the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sesan, noted that the ACN controlled state government has promoted education especially in the last four years through the introduction of incentives such as payment of NECO and WAEC examination fees for students in the state’s public schools and the provision of free text books in critical subjects to pupils from nursery to secondary schools.
She called on the people to ensure continuity of good governance in the state by coming out en masse to identify with all the candidates of the ACN who, according to her, have been tested and trusted to deliver on the promises of the party.
While presenting the party flags to the candidates which include, Senator Gbenga Ashafa for Lagos East Senatorial District, Hon. Deji Jakande for Shomolu Federal Constituency, Hon. Rotimi Olowo for Shomolu Constituency 1 and Hon. Rotimi Lateef Abiru for Shomolu Constituency 11, State Chairman of ACN, Otunba Henry Ajomale, reiterated the need for the people to vote ACN to power once again come April this year pointing out that the party has proved to be the best in the country.
Also present at the event were incumbent Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora, both serving and past government officials, party leaders, traditional, market and religious leaders as well as representatives of social and community associations.
