COVID-19 cases slump in Nigeria

COVID-19 cases slumped heavily by half in Nigeria on Saturday as the nation heaved a sigh of relief.

In the last few days, daily COVID-19 cases in Nigeria were always over 1,000, but it slumped on Saturday to 576.

On Friday, 1,074 cases were reported in the country. On Thursday, it was 1,031. And on Wednesday 30 December, it was 1,016.

But on Saturday, the cases fell to 576. NCDC did not explain the fall.

Lagos recorded 277 cases, 48 percent of the infections reported.

This was also a slump, in the state that has 31,107 cumulative cases and reported record-breaking 642 cases on Friday.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja recorded 90 cases and Oyo posted 51 cases.

Unlike on Friday when five deaths were reported, eight deaths were announced on Saturday.

This takes the total deaths recorded so far to 1,302 out of 89,163 confirmed cases, while 74,789 survivors have so far been discharged

New cases were reported in 14 States and the FCT on Saturday.
