ACN Donates 28,500 Helmets To Okada Riders

The Lagos State Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN has distributed 28,500 crash helmets to commercial motorcyclists (Okada) in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, to protect their lives.

The beneficiaries of the helmets are members of the Motorcycles Association of Lagos, MOALS, in all the 57 Councils of the state.

The event was held at the ACN secretariat, Orile-Agege LCDA recently. Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa gave out the helmets to beneficiaries.

Opeifa advised other states to follow suit by giving okada riders helmets to help protect lives whenever there was accident.

Opeifa stated that the government in Lagos had allowed okada riders to operate within the laws of the state, and that since September last year, after government enforced okada regulations, the rate of accidents involving okada had dropped drastically.

Chairman, Alagba branch of MOALS, Orile-Agege, Mr Jacob Osuolade, thanked the ACN for the gesture, and that members of the union would vote for the ACN in the forthcoming election.

Also, the Chairman, Orile-Agege branch of MOALS, Mr Taofeek Akinola said members of the union were happy about the gesture and promised to support the ACN at the April polls.
