Teachers Honour Eshinlokun, Lagos Island Council Boss
The Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State, Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, has been honoured by the Lagos State branch of Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria for his contribution to education development.
Presenting the award on behalf of the association, Mrs. Titi Oyemade, said teachers in the local government area never had it so good until the coming of the Eshinlokun-led administration, which, she said, has reformed public primary schools in the area.
Oyemade therefore implored other council chiefs in the state to emulate their Lagos Island council counterpart and stop parents and guardians patronising private institutions across the state.
While receiving the award, Eshinlokun said he decided to focus on education because of his desire to build on the legacy of his predecessors in office by making education a priority, especially at the formative stage of life.
The council boss, who was represented by Adetoyese Olusi, his deputy, said besides the provision of desks and benches, the council had rehabilitated all dilapidating structures of at least nine of the 11 public schools in the area, while it had completed reconstruction of 12 classrooms and added six new ones to the the existing ones at Anwal Ul Islam Primary School.
The council, according to him, had also completed the rehabilitation of Ansar Ud Deen Primary School, Alakoro, which he said would be delivered in due course.
He said his administration recently organised extra mural classes for all SS3 students in the area and gave out free JAMB and GCE forms to all indigent students to assist them in their educational pursuit.
